When the public employer funds mobility instead of the local authority

Karos transforms everyday commuting into a structured and scalable mobility system by coordinating real-world carpooling through digital technology.
Mobility around the clock

Reliable for every shift start

Karos carpools cover trips at off-peak hours: nights, weekends, on-call shifts — where the metropolitan public transit isn't enough.
Reducing commuting costs for employees

Purchasing power preserved

The employers' co-financing of the passenger ticket triggered a rapid modal shift towards carpooling, without any territorial funding.
Improving site accessibility

Connecting city and outskirts

The scheme connects CHU Bordeaux with peri-urban sites like CH Cadillac, 1 hour from the metropolitan area, across an extended commuting basin.

Targeting corporate mobility on employer level

CHU Bordeaux (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire / University Hospital), Gironde’s largest public employer, is part of the Alliance de Gironde regional hospital group. Launched in March 2024, the project set out to demonstrate how carpooling can complement the transport options of a major metropolitan area, despite receiving no financial support from Bordeaux Métropole. The initial scope included several healthcare institutions, among them sites in Libourne and the rural CH Cadillac, around one hour from Bordeaux.

Employer co-financing of the passenger ticket drove rapid adoption: the scheme exceeded 1,000 passenger trips per month in under four months and peaked at 1,200 in January 2025. Since February 2026, the project has focused on CHU Bordeaux, CH Charles Perrens and CH Cadillac—three institutions committed to investing time and resources in its development. Usage currently remains stable at 800 to 900 passenger trips per month.
