Karos and Daily join forces to scale everyday carpooling across Europe

Karos has officially completed the acquisition of Daily, formerly BlaBlaCar Daily, bringing together two teams that have helped shape everyday carpooling over more than a decade.

The transaction, first announced in July 2026, became effective on 1 October 2026.

Together, Karos and Daily now bring together 275,000 active carpoolers, more than 11 million shared rides per year, over 250 local authorities and 1,500 partner companies. The combined organisation comprises 140 employees working towards the same ambition: making everyday carpooling a mainstream mode of transport across Europe.

But this new chapter is about more than scale.

More than a decade of experience coming together

For more than twelve years, Karos and the teams behind Daily have worked on many of the same challenges: how to make carpooling reliable enough for the daily commute, how to build dense local networks, how to work with employers and public authorities, and ultimately how to turn empty seats in cars into a genuine mobility offer.

Sometimes those teams worked alongside each other. Sometimes they competed.

Over the years, the wider everyday carpooling market has also been shaped by teams and entrepreneurs from Karos, BlaBlaCar Daily, Klaxit, iDVROOM, goFLUX and other pioneering initiatives.

Bringing much of this experience together creates a unique opportunity to combine technology, operational expertise and lessons learned across thousands of mobility projects and millions of shared journeys.

The goal is clear: to accelerate the adoption of everyday carpooling in France and across Europe.

Why scale matters in carpooling

Carpooling is fundamentally a network-based form of mobility.

The more people travelling within the same area participate, the easier it becomes to find someone whose route and schedule match your own. A denser community creates more potential matches, which in turn makes the service more useful and reliable.

That makes scale particularly important.

Today, cars still dominate commuting in many European regions, and many of those vehicles travel with empty seats. Those unused seats represent transport capacity that already exists: no new vehicle needs to be built and no new route needs to be created.

The challenge is to organise that capacity.

By ultimately bringing together the Karos and Daily communities, the new organisation can create denser carpooling networks while combining more than a decade of technology and operational expertise.

Building on what already exists

The ambition behind the acquisition is not to create another new mode of transport. It is to make better use of a mobility resource that already exists every morning and evening.

Millions of people are already driving to work.

When some of those journeys are shared, the same vehicles can transport more people while helping reduce individual commuting costs, traffic pressure and associated emissions.

For Karos, making this work at scale means treating carpooling not simply as an app feature, but as a real mobility service.

That requires technology, of course. But it also requires strong local networks, cooperation with employers and public authorities, incentives, communication and long-term operational support.

Across Europe, hundreds of local authorities, public transport organisations and companies are already using this approach to integrate carpooling into everyday mobility.

Continuity for Daily users and partners

While the two teams are now part of the same organisation, there is no immediate change for Daily users or partners.

Existing contracts, services and contacts remain in place. BlaBlaCar Daily has become Daily and will initially continue to operate independently.

From 2027 onwards, the service will progressively be integrated into the Karos ecosystem. The aim is to provide partners with access to a unified platform and a larger carpooling network while ensuring continuity throughout the transition.

For users, local authorities and corporate partners, the process is designed to happen without interruption to existing services.

One mission, a stronger European network

The acquisition also marks an important step in Karos’ European development.

Karos already operates in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Italy. Combining the experience of Karos and Daily strengthens the ability to share technology, know-how and best practices across markets rather than developing everyday carpooling country by country in isolation.

That European dimension matters.

Mobility systems differ between countries, cities and rural regions, but many of the underlying challenges are remarkably similar: long commuting distances, limited alternatives outside major urban centres, rising mobility costs and large numbers of cars travelling with only one person inside.

Everyday carpooling can respond to these challenges by connecting existing journeys into shared mobility networks.

Greater scale means a greater ability to invest, innovate and build those networks.

Making everyday carpooling an obvious choice

The opportunity remains enormous.

Every empty seat on a regular commute is potential transport capacity. The task ahead is to make sharing those seats easy, reliable and attractive enough to become part of people’s normal mobility habits.

That is the mission that has driven Karos since its creation — and the mission that now brings the Karos and Daily teams together.

One team. More than a decade of combined experience. A larger community of carpoolers and partners across Europe.

And a shared goal: to make everyday carpooling as natural a choice as taking the bus, train or metro.
