the Region

Stefan Landes
Many of our long-serving employees commute up to 70 kilometres to N3 Engine Overhaul Services. It was important to us to support our team in this area. Carpooling helps reduce fuel costs and makes us a more attractive and accessible employer for new colleagues who do not have a suitable public transport connection.

A New Layer of Public Transport

The Erfurter Kreuz industrial area is one of the region’s most important employment hubs, with around 12,000 daily commuters. Employees travel up to 100 kilometres to reach the site, while public transport quickly reaches its limits due to the wide range of shift patterns across local employers.

‍

Karos carpools close these mobility gaps, improve access to the site from surrounding rural areas and complement public transport, particularly during off-peak hours. The longest carpool trips within the project cover up to 80 kilometres, while the average shared commuting distance is 28 kilometres.

‍

The project is delivered in partnership with the Ilm-Kreis district, the Ilm-Kreis Public Transport Company (IKPV), the Initiative Erfurter Kreuz and the largest employers at Erfurter Kreuz, including N3 Engine Overhaul Services, CATL, Hörmann and Marquardt.
